I'm a career teacher-librarian, but I've always felt there was something else I should be doing. I started off in geology, but found it too much like the army- or the farm (go to the field and don't come back until the work is done) and decided I liked the personal freedom (outside of the day's class sched) offered by teaching.
After a short stint as a fulltime classroom teacher, I got into libraries "through the back door" when I decided that librarians enjoyed an even greater range of autonomy (and influence) in the system than classroom teachers. In my first Teacher-Librarian position, I knew I'd found my niche in education, and that's where I've been for the past 30 years.
Most recently, though, I've discovered my REAL passion for creating rather than just curating. At the same time, I've felt I'd like to widen my audience - and so began my exploration of writing as an actual career; something to carry on when it's time to "hang up my spurs" as a Teacher-Librarian. I'm not giving up my day-job just yet, but someday...
